A Long Winter

Principal photography is underway for A Long Winter, written and directed by Andrew Haigh

We’re excited to announce our latest co-production with Mubi – A LONG WINTER, written and directed by Andrew Haigh.

Production has begun on A Long Winter, the new film from acclaimed UK filmmaker Andrew Haigh.

Starring Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Caitríona Balfe, Kit Connor and Fred Hechinger, the film is adapted by Haigh from Colm Tóibín’s short story of the same name. Set in the high mountains, it follows a family preparing for the long winter ahead — a story steeped in atmosphere, isolation and quiet resilience. Filming is currently underway in Alberta, Canada.

The film is produced by Tristan Goligher for the UK’s The Bureau, Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev for Canada’s Nomadic Pictures, and Michael Elliott for the UK, with further cast including D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Manuel Garcia Rulfo and David Furr.

MUBI will release the film in territories including the US, UK, Ireland, and much of Europe, Latin America, Australia and beyond, with The Match Factory handling worldwide sales.

Developed by MUBI and co-financed with Film4, the project is being overseen by Film4’s Director Farhana Bhula and Development and Production Executive Max Park.

Haigh’s last film, All Of Us Strangers, also made with Film4, earned six BAFTA nominations and cemented his reputation as one of the UK’s most distinctive voices in contemporary cinema. His previous work includes Lean on Pete, 45 Years and Weekend. He’s also attached to direct Belly of the Beast, with Ben Stiller and Colin Farrell.
