Film4 has a long history of championing original storytelling, and this year we are proud to support four debut features heading to Sundance Film Festival. Running from 22 January to 2 February, Sundance remains one of the world’s leading showcases for independent filmmaking, making it the perfect home for bold new work and distinctive creative voices.

Our 2025 lineup spans continents and genres. Each film offers its own fresh perspective, shaped by emerging talent who are already making their mark on the industry. Below is a closer look at the Film4-backed debuts set to premiere.

Extra Geography

Director: Molly Manners

Set in an English boarding school, Extra Geography follows two teenage girls as they grapple with all the challenges of girlhood: friendship, boys, studies, growing up and their summer project, “to fall in love”.

The Disciple

Director: Joanna Natasegara

An outsider fuelled by relentless determination works his way into the inner circle of the Wu-Tang Clan, where his ambition and creativity converge in the making of an album poised to ignite global controversy.

Filipiñana

Director: Rafael Manuel

Adapted from Manuel’s short of the same name. Set in the self-contained sphere of an elite golf course and country club in Manila, Filipiñana follows tee-girl Isabel as she learns the rules and tests the boundaries of her new job.

Lady

Director: Olive Nwosu

In the sprawling African metropolis of Lagos, a fiercely independent young cab driver meets a band of radiantly reckless sex workers whose sisterhood pulls her into danger and joy, setting her on a journey toward her own transformation.

These premieres highlight Film4’s ongoing commitment to supporting first-time filmmakers across a range of backgrounds and storytelling traditions. Sundance continues to be a vital launchpad for new talent, and we are excited for audiences, industry and press to discover these four films for the first time.
