Cate Kane Appointed Senior Commissioning Executive at Film4
Film4, the feature film division of Channel 4, today announced the appointment of Cate Kane as Senior Commissioning Executive.
Cate will join the creative team in January 2026 and report to Farhana Bhula, Director of Film4, alongside Senior Commissioning Executive David Kimbangi.
Cate joins Film4 from MUBI, where she was most recently co-Head of Global Acquisitions since 2020, acquiring titles across an international footprint, including Aftersun, The Substance, My Father’s Shadow and The Worst Person in the World. Prior to this, she was Head of Acquisitions at Curzon Film for nine years, leading on films including Parasite, 45 Years and Force Majeure. Cate has also worked at BBC Film, Casarotto Ramsay and Content Film.
At Film4, Cate will play a key role in shaping Film4’s slate, partnering closely with filmmakers to shepherd projects from early development through to production. Her arrival signals Film4’s continued commitment to combining creative risk-taking with industry expertise.
Cate Kane said: “Having collaborated with Film4 for many years, I’m over the moon to now join Farhana’s brilliant team and help build on their extraordinary slate. Film4 has always been the creative home for filmmakers that have inspired me, and I can't wait to champion both established and emerging voices for audiences everywhere.”
Farhana Bhula, Director of Film4, comments: “I’m delighted that Cate Kane will be joining Film4 as a Senior Commissioning Executive. Cate is an exceptional creative force whose instincts, track record, and vision perfectly align with the next chapter of Film4. She has proven to be fearless in backing some of the most exciting new voices from the UK and is deeply committed to championing work that resonates with global audiences.”
Cate’s appointment comes following the news this week that Film4 has backed four directorial debut films which will receive their world premieres at Sundance in 2026: Molly Manners’s Extra Geography, Rafael Manuel’s Filipiñana, Olive Nwosu’s Lady and Joanna Natasegara’s The Disciple. Film4’s current production slate includes Alice Birch’s Sweetsick starring Cate Blanchett, Jonathan Schey’s Everybody Wants To F*ck Me starring Taron Egerton, Andrew Haigh’s A Long Winter and Bijan Sheibani’s The Arrival.
